The City of Sheffield, (population 1130), is seeking a full time Chief of Police.
Applicant must be a self-motivated and dedicated individual who will have the primary responsibility to oversee the police department. The Chief of Police shall enforce all laws of the State of Iowa and City of Sheffield Code of Ordinances, supervise and coordinate activities of subordinate officer and perform related duties as required; and oversee the day-to-day activities to include all administrative functions of a law enforcement agency.
ILEA certification is required. Previous supervisory/leadership experience preferred along with a criminal justice degree. Candidate must be professional, people oriented, flexible, attention to detail, good communication skills, and have a passion for the law, to which include integrity, honesty, and ability to be stern. Out of state certified applicants will be required to obtain Iowa Certification through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. Applicant must possess a valid vehicle operator’s license and firearms permit. Applicant must pass a physical examination and drug testing.
